AMERICAN CAVY
Working with American's in Black
The American is the oldest breed of Guinea pig. It is believed to have been first domesticated around 5000 BC in the Andes. It wasn't until the 1500s that humans began to selectively breed them creating several different varieties. The short-haired breed was originally known as the English Cavy, and in some countries it is still called by that name. The American Cavy Breeders Association recognized them as one of the thirteen breeds of cavies and began calling them Americans in the 1960s. The American cavy can be found in a wide variety of colors and patterns, and any of the nineteen colors are acceptable for showing.

"Eye of the Fancy" the Dwarf Hotot
The Dwarf Hotot's original home is Germany. It was developed independently in both East and West Germany in the late seventies and later crossed. The breeders in these two parts of Germany took different approaches in their development of the Dwarf Hotot rabbit. The West German breeders tried to develop a Hotot marked Netherland Dwarf by crossing a REW and Black Netherland Dwarf. One of these crossing produced a Dutch marked rabbit that when bred back to the black Netherland Dwarf produced Dwarf Hotots with black ears and spots on the back. Further breeding among the offspring of this mating resulted in a true Dwarf Hotot of very small size and accepted by ARBA in 1984.
Pronounced "oh-toe" or sometimes "hoe-toe." Another name for this breed is "Eyes of the Fancy." Just like their name says, they are dwarf-sized. They are not supposed to weigh more than 3 pounds, and the ideal weight is 2.5 pounds. They have compact, stocky bodies, with round heads and dark, bright eyes. They look like they are wearing eye-liner, but that is actually a ring of black fur. The rest of their fur is soft and white all over.
